CONCEPT

Disgraced Olympic gymnast never looks before they leap.

POWERS

kinetic energy manipulation;

Absorption. Taby must absorb kinetic energy before she exerts it, either from being hit or hitting something. She can only do this if she's paying attention, and can only store so much energy before her absorption "caps out". While she can absorb the shock of a punch, fall, or projectile, she can still be injured when caught off-guard or hit with sufficient force (ie, by multiple bullets).

Concussive blast. She can exert kinetic energy to imbue her punches and kicks with incredible force.

Enhanced movement. Using stored kinetic energy, Taby can launch herself great distances, ricochet off solid surfaces, and execute masterful parkour.

unrealized applications

Transference. In theory she can transfer store energy to objects to imbue them with kinetic force (allowing her to, for example, throw objects as if they had been launched from a cannon).

PERSONALITY

Positive: Adventurous, confident, honest, passionate, unstoppable once she sets her mind on something.

Neutral: Extroverted, stubborn, fun-loving, indulgent, energetic.

HISTORY

💥 Born to two gymnasts, both nineteen at the time. They both retired early to raise her, settling in her mother's home nation of the United States, although she was born in Russia and has dual citizenship there. Her mother became a mildly successful romance author; her father became a gymnastics coach.

💥 In the gym since she could toddle. Taby showed an early aptitude for the sport, and her parents' squandered hopes wound up pinned on her. She trained hard and long, forgoing traditional schooling so she could focus on her training.

💥 An immediate powerhouse and fan favorite at the elite level. Easily made the US team for the 2008 Olympics, where they won silver in the team all-around. While many of her teammates retired following this Olympic Games, Taby continued on the elite circuit with hopes of repeating in 2012.

💥 She began manifesting signs of liminality in 2011 and chose to conceal this from the authorities for fear of being disqualified from the Olympics. It took her a few months to realize that her steady increase in performance was due to her liminal powers; at this point she disclosed her liminal status to her father (who was her coach at the time). He urged her to continue the lie through the end of the 2012 Olympic season and just not utilize her abilities.

💥 The US team won gold in 2012, but Taby's liminal status was ultimately discovered a few months after the Games. She was stripped of all her medals, and with her scores disqualified, the US team was retroactively bumped to second place. Following this scandal, the McLeod/Sedov family has been completely ostracized from the gymnastics community, and Taby and her father had a dramatic falling out that has never been reconciled.

💥 Taby was left deeply adrift after the scandal, with little practical life experience, no real friends, and no support system after being cut off by her father. She moved from her home state of California to New York City, where she ended up living with a bunch of other young liminals of questionable reputation.

💥 One of her roommates got her involved in the liminal MMA fighting circuit, where she was gainfully employed from 2013 to 2020. Being a tiny high-energy powerhouse won her a second fan base and some of the athletic recognition back which she so desperately craved, but there was no doubt that this activity was a little bit of a maladaptive coping strategy for her.

💥 A bad injury put her out of commission for six months, during which time she once again contemplated what she wanted to actually do with her life. She's had a handful of short-lived careers over the last few years, including consulting for film and television, social media influencing, and some advocacy work.

💥 Now, she's at Enodia for the first time, a fresh recruit for a fresh start for the station.

WRITING: I prefer writing in 3rd person present tense, but I can switch if you'd prefer to write in past tense. I tend to forget that GDocs exist (it's the ADHD) so I always appreciate an email along with a tag to keep my to-do list visible in my inbox.

BACKTAGGING: Feel free to backtag me whenever/wherever! I am very forgetful and I sometimes tag old stuff after dropping it for awhile but no obligation to tag back.

THREADHOPPING: Go for it.

PRIVATE FILTERS: If they're filtered away from my characters on my posts and they continue more than ~48 hours after the initial post goes up, I'd appreciate it if you moved it elsewhere.

SENSITIVE TOPICS: Mostly I'm good at moderating my own content intake, but always appreciate a heads up if a scene is heading towards a heavy topic. Taby's backstory deals with elements of: childhood emotional neglect.

SMUT: I am a PG 13 girly and writing sexually explicit content is not my preference. Fade to black on logs/scenes. Fine with light innuendo/explicit content in passing.

PHYSICAL CONTACT: They're sort of neutral on this. Physical affection doesn't bother them but they don't crave it. Sometimes they're cuddly and clingy with their friends because they know on some level it's "normal" to enjoy physical contact, but they're never offended if someone doesn't reciprocate. This is also a rare venue in which they are very respectful of other people's feelings and preferences.

CONFLICT: Taby loves to start arguments and throw metaphorical bricks through metaphorical windows. To them this is all in good fun, but it's fine if your character doesn't feel that way and things escalate. Taby is not a particularly kind person and they should probably have way more enemies than they currently do. Also very game for friendly rivals; that's kind of where most of their friendships tend to live.

VIOLENCE: Taby can fight and unfortunately loves to do it. That being said they're not an out-and-out violent person; to them roughhousing and scrapping is an activity and a way to bond. They don't start fights unless everyone is in on the bit, but if someone else starts a fight, they will fight back and even intervene if they weren't initially involved.

BADMOUTHING: Taby does and fully expects others to as well. Go for it.

SHIPPING & CRUSHES: Taby is a little bit of a weirdo and does not get crushes so much as they get hyperfixations. They're intense, like to tease and provoke the objects of their attention, and do not have very good interpersonal boundaries. I imagine they'll probably rotate through a few different pseudo-romantic obsessions over the course of the game, but I don't need or expect these to go anywhere in the long-term! If they're ever making your character uncomfortable you can just tell them to back off IC or let me know OOC and I'll drop it. Sorry they think bullying is cute.
